Lewis Lester Butler, 82, of Sterling, died Sunday afternoon at Regional Hospital of Scranton with his family by his side. He and his wife, the former Helen Walser, had celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Born in Sterling, he was the son of the late Robert and Gladys Frick Butler and had served honorably for the United States Navy Seabees. Lew was a Mason with the Masonic Lodge of Hamlin and a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement, Lew had worked as a real estate broker for RE/MAX of Lake Wallenpaupack where he won many awards and helped many people with their first home ventures. A simple handshake would seal the deal with Lew. He was a man of his word, and will be missed by everyone who crossed paths with him.
Lew was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and walking his property. His greatest enjoyment was cutting his grass on his John Deere tractor.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Butler; a daughter, Beverly Richardson and her husband, Jeff, Sterling; a son, Wayne Butler and his wife, Jill, Madison Twp.; a brother, Lee Butler and his wife, Andrea, Sterling; five grandchildren, Mark Icker; Alyssa Kuehner and her husband, Raymond; Justin, Jace and Aden Butler; and three great-granddaughters, Juliana Icker, Adilyn and Emersyn Kuehner.
He was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Gilpin.
