Final Salute

SOUTH BYRON — Lester G. Heins, 95, a lifelong resident of South Byron, passed away at home on Monday morning, April 4, 2022.

He was born Aug. 20, 1926 in Rochester, N.Y., a son of the late Lester J. and Ethel Lansbury Heins.

Lester was a U.S. Navy veteran, where he was a member of the Seabee Division. He was a 74 year member of the Le Roy American Legion Post -576. He and his father operated their own trucking business and farming operation in the Byron area, which he retired from driving at age 80 and continued to work around the family farm until age 92.

He was a member of the Byron Fire Department for many years and also a member of the South Byron Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Gerald Heins and daughter, Nancy Johnson, both of Byron; grandchildren, Todd Wade and Hillary Heins and his great-grandchildren, Skylar, Samantha, Hunter, Hallie, Colin and Brantley, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara J. Heins in 1989.

There are no prior calling hours and a graveside service with military honors will be held at a future date in the Morganville Cemetery.
