Leslie “Les” Anton Dinehart Obituary
Leslie Anton Dinehart, 76, of Penn Yan, died March 29, 2020 at Rochester General Hospital.
He was the son of Leslie L. and Margaret (Bergman) Dinehart.
Anton was a graduate of Penn Yan Academy Class of 1961.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1961. He was in the Seabees unit and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He married his high school sweetheart, Judy Moss, in October 1963.
Together they raised two children and were married 56 years. Anton worked for NYSEG as a chief lineman for 37 years before his retirement in 2002. It was during these years that he developed many close friendships with his co-workers and their families.
He was an active member of his community in many ways. He was a lifetime member and past chief of the Branchport Fire Department. He was also an active member of the Penn Yan Moose Lodge, the Elks Club, Penn Yan American Legion and the Odd Fellows.
Anton was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He took many hunting trips out west over the years with family, friends and co-workers. He was a lifetime fan of the Buffalo Bills and NASCAR. One of Anton’s favorite pastimes was playing cards — euchre at the Valley Inn — and visiting a casino once in a while where he was “lucky” most of the time.
Most of all, Anton loved his family. He was extremely proud of his kids and grandkids. From the birth of his first grandchild he was lovingly known as “Toppy.” Each of the grandchildren cherished their time spent at Toppy and Grandma’s house over the years where many memories have been made and will continue to be.
Anton is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judy; daughter, Tammy (Loren) James of Branchport; son, Jim (Kim) Dinehart of Penn Yan; grandchildren, Andre (Heather) James, Amanda (Jim) Stockwell, Brandon Dinehart, Bryce (Lindsay) Dinehart, Brooke Dinehart; great-grandchildren, Scott, Josh, Ethan; sisters-in-law, Jean Hurd, Janet (Dave) Hopkins, Joanna (Billy) Wipfler; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be incredibly missed by his entire NYSEG family and his fur babies, Allie Mae and Vera.
He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret in 1983; his father-in-law James Moss in 1988; his sister Kathy McKinney in 1999; his father Leslie in 2001; his mother in-law Margaret Moss Ingram in 2002; his sister Mona Heselton in 2005; and his brother in-law Bill Hurd in 2013.
