Leonard James Marmet, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 86. He was born in Mohawk, New York on September 28, 1934, a son of the late Alfred Walter and Eunice Marion (Shannon) Marmet.

Leonard joined the Navy after graduating from Mohawk High School in 1953. He was a SEABEE during his Navy tour of duty and the Commander of the local retired SEABEEs Island X-8.

Leonard was an avid musician with the piano, organ, and accordion. He was a joker that loved to laugh and would talk with any and everyone. He will be remembered and loved by everyone that knew him.

He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Lewiston Fire Department and continued volunteering as a trainer with the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs. He volunteered at the Niagara Aerospace Museum restoring vintage aircraft.

Leonard is survived by his sister, Karen, his children, Lawrence (Nancy), Louise (Michael), Lucinda, Lucille, Loretta, Lorne (Gail), his companion’s son, John (Desi), 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents, two brothers, Walter and David; his loving companion of 46 years, Trudy; two children, Leo and Linda; his grandchild, Leonard; and three son-in-laws, Michael, Timothy and Andrew. As per Leonard’s wishes there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 10 A.M. in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery in Lewiston.
