Leland Salisbury, age 92, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020, at Green Meadows Nursing Home in Catskill. He was the son of the late Oakley and Carrie Way Salisbury; and husband of the late Theresa Turmel Salisbury. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Earl, Oakley Jr., Clinton, and sister, Mabel Brate. Leland was an avid deer hunter and clay bird trap shooter and for many years belonged to various gun clubs in the area winning many trophies. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy having served with Seabee Unit CBMU 565. He went to work for Tobin Packing Company shortly after returning home from service and retired when they closed. After retirement, he worked for Orange Motors. He is survived by his children, Joanne Lauster (Ronald) of Virginia Beach, Va., Leland Salisbury Jr. (Sherrie) of Hannacroix, Thomas Salisbury (Maryann) of Coeymans Hollow, and Michael Salisbury of Voorheesville; and daughter-in-law Barbara Salisbury of Troy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ronald J. Lauster Jr. (Melissa) of Chesapeake, Va., Sara Decker (Matthew) of Hannacroix, Rachel Fronzo (Nicholas) of King George, Va., Steven Salisbury (Lauren) of West Coxsackie, Thomas L. Salisbury of Coeymans Hollow, and Aaron Salisbury of Troy; and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private per Leland’s request with burial taking place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, New Salem, N.Y.
