Lawrence Shearer, Jr., 86, of New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Lawrence, the only child of Lawrence S. Sr. and Esther M. (Brown) Shearer, was born on July 25, 1936, in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Delores (Sweger) Shearer, of 53 years.
Lawrence was in the Navy Seabees for four years followed by two-year reserves.
He retired from Leon E. Wintermyer as a mechanic, painter, and accomplished welder among many other things.
He loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, gardening, and cutting wood. Lawrence never missed an opportunity to make his famous baked beans for any get-together. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and being a part of their lives.
He enjoyed being helpful to his neighbors, friends, and family and would drop whatever he was doing to lend a helping hand.
Lawrence is survived by his beloved companion Elsie Linn; daughter, Beth (Shearer) Butcher of New Bloomfield, son, Jeffrey Shearer of New Bloomfield, son, Scott Shearer of Duncannon and daughter Toni (Shearer) Flick of Shermans Dale; seven grandchildren, Michael Butcher, Samantha Weller, Joshua Shearer, Jennifer Shearer, Lindsey Shearer, Kyle Barrick and Kimberly Snare; eight great-grandchildren, Mason and Hudson Butcher, Ayden, Wyatt and Blake Weller, Braxton Shearer, Kolson Poet, and Kalianna Snare. He is also survived by an additional wealth of family and friends who love him profoundly.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., at the Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St. Duncannon. Chaplain Todd Carver will serve as officiate. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, March 23, 2023, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral Home. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens following services.
