Final Salute

Lawrence Richard Lucey, 74, passed away peacefully at home in Savannah, Georgia surrounded by his loving family on April 8, 2023. He was born on April 24, 1948, in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the late Rose Virginia (LeBlanc) Lucey and Lawrence John Lucey. He grew up in Woburn, Massachusetts with his brother Will.

Larry was a proud Navy veteran having served two tours in Vietnam with the Seabees.

He met the love of his life, Patty, at a house party in 1973 and they spent the next fifty years together. They married on May 30, 1982, and spent most of their lives living happily in Stratham, New Hampshire with their two daughters, Diana and Kristen. They loved to travel and spoke fondly of their two cross-country trips.

Larry worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a thirty-five-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4 in Boston. With the union, he was involved in a number of projects including the construction of the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant and the Big Dig.

Larry loved spending time with his family on Lake Winnipesaukee. He loved fishing and taking his family out on his boat. He enjoyed running, skiing, ice skating, and tending to his vegetable garden. He filmed every aspect of his family’s lives, from gymnastics meets to Caribbean vacations or even just riding bikes in the driveway. He always had his camera with him and loved documenting their lives.

After retirement, they relocated to Savannah, Georgia. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and living by the water.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Waden) Lucey, their two daughters, Diana (Luke) Grahame and Kristen (Cory) Szostowski, his grandchildren who he loved very much, Theo Lawrence Grahame (10), Cecilia Lucey Grahame (7), and Nolan Anthony Grahame (4), and his brother Willard (Shari) Lucey. He had many lifelong friends.

Larry suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and fought it for over thirty years. He had a life filled with love and adventure with people he cherished. His family will miss him dearly but is grateful for all the good times spent with him and glad he is no longer suffering. His family would like to thank all the wonderful people who helped in his care.

He will be laid to rest at the Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors, in Beaufort, South Carolina, 11:00 a.m., Monday, Maty 8, 2023. I
