Mr. Lawrence Casella

Lawrence Casella, 87 of Pittsfield passed away with his family by his side on January 10, 2025.

Born in Pittsfield on February 5, 1937, and was the fifth of six children born to the late Andrew and Flora Girard Casella, he was educated in Pittsfield Schools. Mr. Casella married the former Kathleen F. McCaherty on November 28, 1959, recently celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.

Lawrence was a United States Navy Veteran, having served as a Seabee and stationed in Pensacola, Florida from 1955-1959.

He was a carpenter for many years at General Electric, retiring at age 55 and then worked at Berkshire Medical Center in the maintenance department before retiring at age 62.

He and his wife lived a very active life. They loved to travel, spending their summers in Wells, Maine. While in Maine he loved to spend time fishing on his boat and playing bocce. They spent their winters in Singer Island, Florida. Larry and Kathy also travel to Europe and the Caribbean.

A communicant of Sacred Heart Church, his faith was very important to him. He and Kathy were active members in the church community.

Larry was very proud of his family and took great pride in their achievements. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Casella and their children, Lawrence Casella (Kathryn), Michelle Costa (Jeffrey), and Kristen Mathieu. He also leaves his five grandsons, Tyler Costa, Ian Casella (Taylor), Ben Casella, Evan Mathieu and Jacob Mathieu. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph and Edward. Larry was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Andrew and Robert, and his sister Rose.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held, Friday, January 17, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 191 Elm St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
