Larry M. Shafer, 81, of Princeton Indiana passed away on February 20, 2024 at River Oaks Heath Campus surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 16, 1942 to the late Forest Shafer and Dorothy (Esche) Blackard. Larry married the love of his life, Diane Lynch, on February 26, 1967. He graduated from Princeton Community High School in 1961. After serving in the Navy as a draftsman in the Seabees in Vietnam, he worked for UPS as a driver. In 1971 Larry moved to Gibson County to become a farmer. He enjoyed putting out the Lord’s crop, playing Euchre, and talking to people. Larry was a lifetime member of the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents and much loved sister, Jane Williams.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Diane; children, Scott (Kim) Shafer of Princeton and Julie (Robert) Utley of Belton, Texas; grandchildren, Hannah Lett, Trent (Katie) Shafer, Brooke Shafer, Kyeson Utley, Kadyn (Skylar) Utley, Kabyl Utley, Kanyn Utley, and Kambyl Utley; great-grandson, Bowen Michael Shafer; siblings, Barbara (Mike) Thomas of Newton, IL and Gene Shafer of Indonesia; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 12 PM Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton officiated by Pastor John Stevens. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery where members of the Retired Military Veterans will conduct full military rites. Visiting hours will be held from 10 AM until the service time at the funeral home.
