Kim Brooks Williams passed away on August 27, 2021, just eight days after his 95th birthday. He was the son of Bessie and Albert Williams of Richmond, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Goodloe Williams and his son, Kim Brooks Williams, Jr.
Kim was born in Gloucester, Virginia and raised in Richmond. He attended Washington and Lee University. He became part of the Greatest Generation when he joined the Navy. He was shipped to Okinawa as a member of the SeaBees. Kim’s unit was tasked with building airfields and landing docks on the island. After the war, he married and moved to Virginia Beach with his wife and children. He was employed by Southern Block and Pipe, later renamed Tarmac.
Kim will be remembered as a true Virginia gentleman. He had a kind and generous spirit. Kim never met a stranger! One of his many gifts was his ability to draw people out and ask about their lives. He enjoyed working in his yard. He was never happier than when he was outside among green, growing things. Kim took great pride in his vegetable garden over the years both at his residences and at Westminster Canterbury on the Bay. His other passion was the beach. He loved to walk the beach and body surf the waves. The beach was his happy place where he found great enjoyment.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anne Moore Williams, his daughter, Maury Joy and her husband Rick, his grandsons Matthew Joy and his wife Ellen O’Donnell and Ryan Joy and his fiancée Kelsey Wilson. Also, his great granddaughter Aoife Joy who was a great source of pride for him.
His family with Anne Williams includes her son Emmett Moore and his wife Rhonda, their daughter Brooke and her husband Chris Ruediger. Also Emmett’s sons Kyle Moore and Ryan Moore. Also, Anne’s son Chip Moore and his wife Donna and their three children, Chad, Jordan, and Maggie, and Anne’s daughter Sara and her husband Joe Payne.
A celebration of Kim’s life will be held at Christ and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 560 W. Olney Road, Norfolk, VA. at 3:00 PM. on Monday, August 30th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to All Saints’ Episcopal Church for God’s Garden, 1969 Woodside Lane Virginia Beach, VA 23454. Kim loved seeing the garden come into bloom each year.
