Kenneth Warren Woodard, age 102 of Hayesville passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 in a Murphy care facility. Kenneth was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. He was a World War II veteran serving United States Navy in South Pacific with the Seabees. Kenneth founded Woodard Electric Service Inc. in 1957 which he owned for the next thirty years until retiring in 1986. He was a devoted member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Kenneth was a member of Hayesville Lions Club and founding member of the Hayesville VFW Post # 6812. He also enjoyed playing golf and a good game of checkers.
He was the son of the late Fred L and Cora Eller Woodard and the husband, of the late Mildred Penland Woodard, who died November 29, 2015. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Elaine Huffman, and four sisters, and five brothers.
Surviving are a son Warren Woodard and wife, Mareen of Hayesville, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Catherine Woodard of Cary, North Carolina, Sharon Lee and husband, Doug of Greenville, North Carolina; one great-grandson, Braeden Lee; three step-grandchildren, Nick Robey, Brooke Byrd and Tara Hellmers; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Monday, October 16, 2023 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Reverend Phil Goble and Reverend Jim Payne officiating. Internment will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Hayesville VFW Post 6812, Hayesville American Legion Post 532, and Murphy American Legion Post 96. Pallbearers will be Doug Lee, Braeden Lee, Mike Gerschefski, Jim Patterson, Joe Waldroup, and Jeff Lowe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Neil Kaplin, Frank Sult, and Zac Lowe.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the Ivie Funeral Home Hayesville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Kenneth Warren Woodard to Truett Conference Center and Camp 177 Truett Lane Hayesville, North Carolina 28904 or www.truettcamp.org/donations. and comment “Kenneth Woodard”.
