Mr. Kenneth Lewis passed from this life on Wednesday July 22, 2020, two days before his 73rd birthday. Kenneth, also known as Ken or Kenny, was a lifelong resident of Savannah, graduating from HV Jenkins High School, Class of ’67. He then enlisted in the US Navy where he was assigned to the Construction Battalion better known as the SEABEE’S. He served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam and was in Gulfport, Mississippi during the devastating hurricane Camille where the Seabee’s assisted in the recovery and rebuilding of Gulfport. These experiences made a lasting, lifelong impression on Kenneth and he was always ready to help if someone was in need.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy he continued working in construction in Atlanta and Savannah. When he had enough of working in the cold and southern heat he began a career working in the food industry in route sales and delivery, once again in the cold and southern heat, until his illness would no longer allow him to properly serve his customers.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Pompey and Sarah (Tootle) Lewis and is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Beth), and the real love of his life, his heart, son Jason. He is also survived by his brothers Ronnie (Linda) and Danny (Frank), and sister Suzanne (Robert) Ward, 3 nieces, Heath, Shawn and Ashley and 1 nephew, Robbie, several great nieces and nephews as well as many beloved cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held when this world returns to the new normal and all those that knew and loved Kenneth can safely gather together to celebrate his precious life.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah Inc for the excellent and loving care provided to Kenneth and our family during his final weeks of life. Kenneth also suggested remembrances may be made to the Animal Rescue Service of your choice.
