Mr. Joseph “Joe” Roy Garst, age 79 , left this world on Monday, October 27, 2024 at Johnson City Medical Center.
Joe was born on January 19, 1945 to the late Daniel Paul and Cora Beatrice Garst in Nashville, TN.
He was a steadfast man of God that shared Jesus with each and every person he met. He was a member of Harvest Time Christian Church where he served faithfully as a founding elder and served for many years leading as a teacher, mentor, and encourager of the faith. He served his country in the US Navy Seabees for two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a general contractor but continued to advise with one of a kind ideas. He was a dedicated farmer and shared his passion with his boys.
Joe was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rita Starnes Garst; son, Johnathan Garst (Angela); grandsons, Matthew Garst, his best friend and Caleb Garst, his little buddy; his little Trudy dog; sisters, Shirley Ayers and Judy Holley (Milburn); several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Visitation will be Friday, November 1, 2024 from 4:30-7:00 pm with funeral services to follow at Harvest Time Christian Church 920 Hwy 107 Jonesborough, TN with Scottie Phillips and Steven Beckett officiating. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Union Christian Church Cemetery, 3639 Cherokee Road Jonesborough, TN.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Ricker, Martin Garst, James Garst, Jacob Slagle, Richard Nelson, and Eddie Garst.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnathan Garst, Matthew Garst, Ballard Bailey, Joe Snyder, Chester Durham, and former Navy buddy Earnest A. Cooper.
