Final Salute

Joseph “Joe” Lee Sheats, of Pittsburgh, passed away on August 1, 2025, at the age of 76.

Born in Paris, France, on November 4, 1948, Joe spent his youth as part of a military family stationed around the world before eventually settling in Pittsburgh, the city he would call home for most of his life.

He proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy Seabee in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971, living the Seabee motto: “With compassion for others, we build, we fight, for peace with freedom.” Joe carried forward the legacy of service he was raised with, embodying quiet strength, deep loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to doing what was right.

Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeanne (Dichiara) Sheats; two daughters, April Bellisario (Earl) and Alysa Sheats (Bryan Kirtley); and two beloved grandchildren, Joseph Bellisario and Beatrix Kirtley. To his family, he was a steady presence, a quiet protector, and a source of strength they could always count on.

A private burial will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the veteran charity of your choice, in honor of Joe’s service and lifelong respect for those who served beside him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
