Johnnie F. James, 76, of Jackson died Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 28, 1949, in Cape Girardeau to Bertha M. Ade and Joe D. James. Johnnie and Linda Marie McElrath were married Saturday, May 28, 1977, in Fredericktown. They were married for 49 years.

He was a member of the American Legion in Cape Girardeau and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Johnnie owned and operated James Wrecker Service for many years before selling the company. He then worked for Penzel Construction Company as a heavy-equipment operator, before retiring.

He served during Vietnam in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee.

Survivors include wife, Linda M. James of Jackson; son, Andrew Joseph James of Brady, Texas; and grandson, Kevyn C. James of Brady.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at noon Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carl Palmer officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
