Final Salute

John W. Summers, age 97, of Canton, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025. He was born January 13, 1928 in Canton to his parents, the late, Sylvester and Mildred Beulah (Evans) Summers. John was a 1946 graduate of Bolivar High School and was a veteran of the US Navy serving in the Seabees during WWII from June, 1946 to April, 1948. He retired in 1994 from Cummins Diesel of Ohio, where he was a diesel mechanic for 39 years. John was a member of American Legion Post #221 (Massillon) and a member of the Polish American Citizen’s Club of Canton.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Lois (Risher) Summers; siblings, Lela Yoss, Helen Buxton, Marion Summers, Judy Hobbs and Robert Ritz.

He is survived by a daughter, Lorraine (Mark) Sutton; son, Gary (Peggy) Summers; grandson, Erik (Virginia) Summers; four great grandsons, Ryan, Gavin, Landon and Nolan; a sister, Linda (Al) Collins and his dancing partner and dear friend, Linda Horton.

John’s wishes were for a graveside service only which will be held Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 1:30 pm at Easts Union Lawn Cemetery (236 4th St. NE, Navarre, OH) where he will be buried with military honors.
