John Mazzochi, 92, of Harwinton passed away peacefully Wednesday April 1, 2020.

Born in Torrington Sept. 17, 1927, he was the son of Albert Mazzochi and Antionette Zampaglione, both formerly of Torrington.

John served his country in World War II in the Navy Seabees stationed in Samar, Philippines.

After being discharged from the service he met the love of his life Frances N. Plachta and was married.

He was gainfully employed as a skilled machinist with General Times/Timex of Thomaston, Conn., and Widger Manufacturing of Plainville, Conn.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all he met. He volunteered his time to his church, Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department, and was one of the first to help organize and build the first baseball fields for the Harwinton Little League. An avid sports fan, you would always see him at Lewis S. Mills High School watching basketball, soccer and softball.

In 2011 John received his GED and was honored as being nominated the Man of the Year.

John loved to travel and in his later years even got to fulfill his bucket list of being at the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Bendoraitis-Mazzochi of Harwinton, Conn., his son, Bruce M. Mazzochi, daughter-in-law, Janet Sienko and grandson, Kenneth Mazzochi of Alton Bay, N.H., granddaughter, Paige A. Mazzochi, of Canton, Conn., and grandson, Brendan Mazzochi and great granddaughter, Aubrey Mazzochi of Southington, Conn. and brother, Herman Castelli of Torrington. He also leaves behind numerous step-children and step- grandchildren.
