On Saturday, January 06, 2024, John Herman TerBorg passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 96. He is preceded in death by Phyllis Elaine TerBorg (nee Muston), his beloved wife of 64 years (married June 7,1947). John was born June 7, 1927, to the late Henry and Clara TerBorg (nee Ackterof) in Muskegon, MI, and preceded in death by siblings Louise, Sadie, Edith, Angie, and Clarence. He is survived by his brother, Louis. He was the devoted father of Judy Dorin and her late husband Jeffrey, Barbara Tilton, Joanne TerBorg and her fiancé Delbert Waybright, and the late James TerBorg and his wife Susan; dear grandfather of Shannon Fortner (nee TerBorg) and husband Michael, David TerBorg and wife Julie, Michael Dorin, Kevin Dorin, Lisa Valentine (nee Tilton) and wife Maria, Patricia Freal (nee Tilton) and husband Patrick, Amanda Bassett (nee Tilton), Josie TerBorg and the late Angela Tilton; loving great-grandfather of 11 great-grandchildren.
John was respected and loved by his family as well as the community. He was a World War II Veteran; served in the Navy as a Seabee, leading him to work on such projects as the Mackinac Bridge &; the Niagara Falls Power Plant. John opened his own local business, Bengies Welding, in Bowleys Quarters, MD. He was a lifetime member as well as an Exaulted Ruler of the Elks and a proud member of the VFW, having served as commander as well as bar chairman.
Services will be held at Bruzdzinski Funeral Home located at 1407 Old Eastern Avenue in Essex, MD on Wednesday, January 17th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral service on Thursday at 10am. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
