AUNDERS, John Herbert Sr. Died in Ukiah, Thursday, February 14, 2002. A life long resident of Ukiah, born March 7, 1922; age 79. He worked for the City of Ukiah for 19 years in the gas department and then for PG&E for 14 years until his retirement. John enjoyed many years of hunting at the “Claim”, metal detecting around the county. He loved animals, he raised goats, ponies and even a burro and he always had a dog and cat around. He was in the navy Seabees from 1941 to 1946 stationed at Dutch Harbor on the Alleution Islands and then to IwoJima. He is survived by his spouse Lona Saunders of Ukiah; daughters Sandra Mike and companion Joseph Lebonati of San Francisco and Leanne and husband Ciro Kraft of Ukiah; daughter-in-law Christine Saunders of Spokane, WA; sons John Jr. and wife Janeen Saunders of Redwood Valley, Craig Saunders Sr. of Ukiah, Brian Saunders of Ukiah, Kevin Saunders of Ukiah; sisters Betty and husband Ernie Schultz of Rancho Cordova and Mary and husband Ken Cummins of Sebastopol; grandchildren Craig Jr. and wife Martha Saunders of Ukiah, Bradley Saunders of Ukiah, Peshlakai Mike of Boise, Idaho, Gabriel Mike of San Francisco, Casey Saunders of Redwood Valley, Allison Saunders of Tacoma, WA, Corey Saunders of Spokane, WA and Jason Saunders of Spokane, WA; great grandchildren Makaela, Jasmine and Katelynn Saunders of Spokane, WA, Alexis Saunders of Redwood Valley and Izabella Saunders of Tacoma, WA; also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his first wife Geraldine Rupe Saunders and son Brent Saunders. Memorial services will be Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at EVERSOLE MORTUARY.
