JOHN G. McCORMICK, 97, died Friday, July 16, 2021. Born in Forest Lake, Minn., he was the son of the late Glenn and Inez McCor -mick. He married Mary McCor -mick; she preceded him in death in 1990. In World War II he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees and fought in the South Pacific, taking his accordion with him. John started the Duluth Accordion Center in 1946 and later it became McCormick Music in Fort Wayne. The school taught hundreds of local children to play and love music until 1969. After retiring John started a part time vocation as a piano tuner. He was called “The piano man.” He is survived by sons, Glen (Land Whaley) of Cicero, Ind., and Denis (Jane) of Orleans, Mich.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral service is 1 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with one hour calling from noon to 1 p.m. He will be entombed at Covington Memorial Gardens. www.covingtonmemorial.com
