John “Francie” Francis Schwenderman

John Francis “Francie” Schwenderman, 92, of Lakeland, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023. Born in Auburn, he was son of the late Norman and Julia (O’Brien) Schwenderman.
Mr. Schwenderman was a US Marine Corps Veteran serving in Haiti and Puerto Rico from 1952 to 1954. Also, he was a US Navy Seabee Veteran serving In Vietnam from 1966 to 1968.
For many years he was an inspector with the NYS Department of Health and was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed writing and was a published author of a book of his poetry. Also, he loved gardening, caring for his cats, weight lifting, judo, wrestling and listening to music, especially country and opera.
Predeceased by his brothers, Norman and Joseph; sisters, Judy, Mary and Anne, he is survived by his sister, Elizabeth “Betty”. He leaves behind his precious cat, Ollie, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Calling hours are Wednesday, October 18th from 4 to 7 pm at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, October 19th at 10 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 407 South Main Street, North Syracuse followed by burial, with military honors, in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
