John Fletcher Sears Jr., 81, went home to heaven Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Reflections in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born on March 17, 1943 in Sumter, SC, graduate from Edmunds High School, served in the Navy Seabees and was a Construction Electrician all of his working life and retired from GTE/Verizon after many years of service. Working for the local Telephone Company was a family tradition for the Sears. John loved his family, MLB Baseball and did beautiful woodworking projects.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years to Randy Perry Sears of Myrtle Beach, SC; 3 children, son, Jeffrey Byron Cole, Sr of Myrtle Beach, SC, son, John Patrick Sears, Sr. (Suzanne) of Sumter, SC and daughter, Julie E. Sears Hanford of Sumter, SC; Sister-in-Law, Patricia P. Sears of Murrells Inlet, SC, close friend like a son, Pete Jastrzembski. 5 Grandchildren. Jeffrey B. Cole, Jr. (Patience) of Myrtle Beach, SC, John Patrick Sears, Jr. (Aileen) and McLendon Lee Sears (Parker) both of Charleston, SC, Anna Katherine Hanford of New York, and Harris Oren Hanford of Sumter, SC. 2 great grandchildren, Mia Delaney Cole and Lawson Josiah Cole of Myrtle Beach, SC; niece, LeeAnne Sears of Murrells Inlet, SC and nephew, Thomas Ryan Sears (Bella Sears and Jake Sears) of Myrtle Beach, SC.
John was predeceased by his parents, John Fletcher Sears, Sr. and Arlie Mae Pace Sears, brother, Thomas Wilson Sears and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Ann Stone Cole.
Memorials may be made to any Alzheimer’s charity or a charity of their personal choice in John’s memory.
The family is very appreciative of Reflections Assisted Living at Carolina Forest, Agape Hospice and Myrtle Beach Funeral Home & Crematory for their care and services during our time of need.
The family will have a memorial service for John Fletcher Sears, Jr. at a later date at Lake Wateree, Winnsboro, SC where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved daughter-in-law Rhonda.
