John B. Burry, Jr., 87, of Kunkletown, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at his home in Kunkletown, PA. Born on November 16, 1937, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late John Burry, Sr., and the late Loretta (Kowalski) Burry. John was the husband of the late Diane Burry, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. After graduating from high school, he attended King’s College in Wilkes Barre, PA where he earned his degree in accounting. After college, John joined the United States Navy, where he served two tours of duty as Supply Officer aboard the USS Annapolis (AGMR-1) and the USS Waddell (DDG-24) during the Vietnam War. He also served two tours of duty with the Navy Seabees on the islands of Guam and Diego Garcia. John finished his 21-year Naval career in 1981 at the Naval Air Propulsion Center in Trenton, NJ. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, John was employed by Control Displays Inc. and Weiler Brush Co. as a buyer. He finished his career working for Guard Insurance Co. as a building manager and chauffeur/driver before fully retiring in 2012. In his younger years, he loved to spend time fishing, hunting, and camping. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed fixing things up around the house. John is survived by his sons, John Burry and wife Margaret of Birdsboro, PA and Douglas Burry and wife Catherine of Cinnaminson, NJ; daughter, Suzanne Burry of Anchorage, AK; stepdaughters, Melody Asbury of Albrightsville, PA, Madeline wife of Gregory M. Pelletier of Jim Thorpe, PA, Melissa wife of Troy Victor of Albrightsville, PA, and Margo J. wife of Mark J. Wensel of Perkasie, PA; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
