John A. Bax 1940 – 2021
Springfield , IL—John A. Bax, 80, of Springfield, died on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center.
John was born September 3, 1940, son of Nicholas and Grace Tesone Bax. He married Carole Franklin November 30, 1963.
John graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1957. He served as a Seabee in the United States Navy in the 122nd Battalion. He worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years, retiring in 2007. John enjoyed gardening, fantasy football, spoiling his grandchildren, and pets.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, “Rosie” Ray and Esther Gentry.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Bax; two sons, Jeff (wife, Chrissi) Bax and Chris (wife, Tina) Bax; one daughter, Tracey (husband, Mike) Chambers; seven grandchildren, Nick, Cassie, Baylee and Zac Bax and Kaleb, Delayne, and Macey Chambers; one sister, Lucille Metz; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 8:30 until 9:15 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Clinton Honkomp, O.P., celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with limited capacity due to COVID restrictions.
