Jimmy Earl Loftis, known as Jim to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home in Willard, Missouri on January 28, 2025, at the age of 76 while surrounded by his loved ones. Born on July 16, 1948, in Ava, Missouri, Jim was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an amazing Poppa whose kindness touched everyone he knew.
Jim graduated from Parkview High School where he played baseball. He delighted in having been the first freshman to play on the varsity team. He then went on to further his education with college courses at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. His strong work ethic and dedication to service were exemplified in his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad and his honorable tenure as a SeaBee in the United States Navy. His commitment to both his country and his work reflected the steadfastness that Jim brought to every aspect of his life.
In his free time, Jim enjoyed watching Cardinals baseball, riding his motorcycle, and tinkering around on his ten acres. More than anything, Jim cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, whether it was attending their school events, cheering them on at sports games, or simply enjoying their company.
Jim’s legacy is carried on by his wife, Sheryl Loftis, who stood by his side in love throughout their 50-year marriage. He was a guiding light to his son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Jennifer, and to his daughter and son-in-law, Abbie and Eli Mabary. Jim’s grandchildren-Emma, Garrett, Evan, Caleb, and Rosetta-were the apple of his eye and he took immense pride in their every achievement and milestone. His surrogate grandkids, Clay, Quinley, Jefferson, and Jack thought of him as their Poppa too and he loved having that role in their lives. Likewise, he loved their parents Tanner and Tiffany. Jim was born to a large family and married into a large family and always had room in his heart to include all. Sheryl’s sisters thought of him as a brother, describing him as always there quietly doing whatever needed to be done. He was a beloved brother, brother-in-law, cousin, nephew, and uncle to many.
Jim was a member of Brookline church of Christ. While he wasn’t one to volunteer to teach a Bible class, you only had to look at the life he lived to know that he taught by example. He was kind, patient, steadfast, and loving.
Jim’s presence was a source of strength and comfort to his family and his absence will be felt deeply by all who knew him. Yet, the memories of his unwavering support and his boundless love will continue to guide his loved ones.
As we say goodbye to Jim, we celebrate a life well lived. We remember a man who loved deeply, worked tirelessly and gave generously of himself to his family. His life was a testament to the enduring power of love and the impact one person can have on the lives of many.
