Jesse P. Haynes Sr., a devoted father and veteran, passed away peacefully at his home in Glynn County, surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, July 5, 2025. He was 77 years old.

Born on March 6, 1948, in Appling County, Jesse dedicated much of his life to serving his country and community. He proudly served for 25 years in both the Navy Reserves and the Air National Guard. His military career began on Oct. 3, 1969, when he joined the Navy Reserves. He served with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133d, “Runnin’ Roos,” a Seabee battalion deployed during Vietnam. Following his service in the Navy, Jesse joined the Georgia Air National Guard’s 224th Joint Communication Support Squadron in Brunswick, where he served as a vehicle maintenance mechanic until his honorable discharge on July 6, 1994.

Beyond his military service, Jesse dedicated 35 years to Georgia Power Co., where he held the position of fleet services mechanic manager. He retired from this role on March 3, 2008.

Jesse is survived by his children, Jodi Denley (Stephen) of Brunswick, Jesse Haynes Jr. (Sara) of Castroville, Texas, and Peyton Haynes of Orlando, Florida. He was a loving grandfather to Kendyl and Tinley Haynes of Castroville, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen Harris of Ludowici; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jesse was a longtime member of Glyndale Baptist Church, and a member of Ocean Lodge 717 F&AM.

Known for his outgoing personality and infectious smile, Jesse never met a stranger. He had a playful nature and especially enjoyed joking with and admiring the beauty of women. A jokester at heart, he was rarely seen without a smile and was known for his kind and caring nature. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, and enjoyed occasional fishing trips with his friend, Mr. Al Coty.
