Final Salute

Jeffery A. Scharadin of Southold died on July 18 at home. He was 66 years old.

Jeff was born in Riverhead on July 13, 1958. He graduated from Southold High School in 1976. He served honorably in the United States Navy as a Seabee from 1976 to 1980, spending time in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Diego Garcia. He was a master electrician, operating “Scharadin Electric” since 1986, serving both the north and south forks. Jeff was also a proprietor of Eagle’s Neck Paddle Company. His family said he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed nature, wide open spaces, and had a deep reverence for the universe.

He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret Irene (Norklun) and Donald Henry Scharadin, and his older brother, Daniel. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Elizabeth Mary (Liz) of Southold; his son, Doug, of Aquebogue; his daughter, Abigail (Abby) of Henderson (Corey Morris).

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, July 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. A prayer service officiated by Father Peter Garry will be held at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Thursday at Calverton National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with military honors.
