James R. “Boat” “Swede” Swanson, 77, of East McKeesport, died Sunday, June 4, 2023, at home. Born May 14, 1946, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late William C. “Swede” and Catherine “Cussie” (Daugherty) Swanson; and the loving husband of Marilyn (Wiater) Swanson for 50 years. James graduated from McKeesport High School in 1964, then joined the Navy as a Seabee and was a proud Vietnam veteran. He worked for U.S. Steel Irvin Works and retired after 35 years of service. After his retirement, James worked for Valley Auto as a parts driver. He was a member of the Port Vue American Legion and a Grandview Alumni. James loved watching and playing softball, was an avid hunter, playing keno and singing karaoke. He enjoyed daily walks with his dog, Nugget, where he met many wonderful friends on their walks. On many days and evenings, you could find James sitting on the porch with his beloved brother, John, sharing stories of the day. In addition to his wife, James is survived by children, James “Jimo” Swanson, Jayme “Mayme” (Kip Dorsey) Swanson and William “The Beed” Swanson; brother, John (Linda) Swanson; sisters, Vicki (the late Gary) Orosz and Toni Kondrich; brother-in-law, John (Maria) Wiater; sister-in-law, Kathy (Joe) Dodd; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, at JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY.
