Mr. James Kraner “Jim” Strickland

James Jim Kraner Strickland, 74, of Suffolk, Va. passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022. He was born on January 26, 1948, to James Christopher and Georgia Joanna Strickland.
Jim served his country proudly during the Vietnam Era as a Seabee in the Navy and was awarded the Vietnam Technical Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart. After his military service, Jim, worked for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and continued with many accomplishments where he was recognized on the Congress Floor for his achievements. Jim was the president of West End Civic League, Naval Civilian Managers Association, and Peaksview Homeowner s Association. He loved being in the woods hunting, camping, or building his dream cabin. He was the #1 Dad and loved his family. Jim believed in community. He was the go-to guy in the neighborhood. If there was ever a need, Jim would help you out. Every Christmas his love for his community would shine as he became Santa and handed out candy canes.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Deborah L. Strickland; son, Charles Christopher Strickland (Allyson Yost); daughters, Elizabeth Snellinger (Zacherie Lay), Rebecca Godfrey (Randall Godfrey); grandchildren, Dylan Yost, Riley Godfrey, Ella Snellinger; sisters, Janis Babbitt (Fred), Joanna Ray (Pete); his brother Brian Zartman; and numerous other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at R.W. baker & Company Funeral Home and Crematory, Downtown Chapel, 509 W. Washington St. Suffolk, Va. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in his name to Suffolk Animal Care of Suffolk.
