James “Jim” William Matthews, 90, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2025. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.

Born in Hempstead, Long Island, Jim was the son of James Joseph Matthews and Ida Seamen. He proudly served his country in the Navy Seabees, where he was stationed in many locations, primarily throughout the South Pacific. His dedication to service was a defining part of his life, instilling in him a deep sense of discipline, resilience, and love for his country.

A hardworking and dedicated professional, Jim was employed in the Engineering Department at Yale-New Haven Hospital before his retirement. Prior to that, he worked at Avco Lycoming as a government security specialist.

Outside of his career, Jim found great joy in being on the water. As a longtime member of the City Point Yacht Club, he cherished time spent fishing and sharing stories with family and friends.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, who will always cherish the memories they shared with him.

Jim lived a full and meaningful life, guided by love, faith, and an unwavering dedication to his family. His wisdom, humor, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.

May he rest in eternal peace.
