Passed away on October 21, 2012. Jim was born in Sebastopol, CA on October 27, 1924, to James and Edith (Scudder) Cruse. He graduated from Analy High School in 1942 and immediately joined the Seabees and became a baker. Most of his service years were spent in England. After World War II, he began working at the post office in Sebastopol and then in Fortuna, where he worked until his retirement. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Frances and his second wife Barbara. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, MaryEvelyn Panttaja, his nephews Leon Panttaja (Cathy) and Jim Panttaja (Mary), nieces Susan Panttaja (David Templeton) and Ann Panttaja, nine great nieces and nephews, and 17 great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He was active in the American Legion, serving as commander of Sebastopol Post 39 and Fortuna Walker-Bailey Post 205. He also served at the State level. Jim was an avid fisherman and was never happier than when he was out fishing on his boat, the Foolish Pleasure. It was his wish to be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea.
