Jack W. Brown Obituary

Jack W. Brown, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 4, 2020 at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, Michigan, where he had lived for eleven months. His death was not related to COVID-19.

Jack was born July 7, 1927 in Dearborn, Michigan, the son of John and Helen Brown.

He was a graduate of Fordson High School.
At seventeen he volunteered to serve in the Navy Seabees WWII in 1945, 1946 with the U.S. Japanese Occupation Forces at Yokosuka Naval Base as a MMMS 3rd Class Petty Officer and received an Honorable Discharge in June of 1946.

Jack married Marjorie E. Livingston in 1949, they raised five children.

He worked for 22 years for Michigan Bell Telephone Company in the Detroit/Dearborn area before moving to Little Lake, Michigan to do voluntary building and maintenance work at the Upper Peninsula Bible Camp and ministry at Little Lake Chapel. He continued to work for Michigan Bell and Ameritech in Marquette and Gwinn for a total of 35 years, retiring in 1982.

Together, Jack and Marj began a volunteer traveling, building ministry, working around the U.S. at Bible camps, churches, rest homes, Christian ministry organizations and helping individuals from coast to coast. Together, they did volunteer work with missions in Japan for six months. They also lived for two years (1989-90) in Vienna, Austria, working with a mission organization doing construction and cooking, and were sometimes involved with smuggling Bibles, books, medicines, food, clothing and money behind the Iron Curtain until the walls came down.

Jack was an active member at Bethel Baptist Church in Marquette, serving wherever he was needed. He also served as a Lake Superior Hospice Volunteer, especially with WWII veterans. He devoted his life to serving God and loving his family.

Jack is survived by his devoted wife and partner of 70 years, Marjorie, sons Raymond (Mary) and Thomas (Carlene), daughters Sharon (John Shaw) and Annette, six grandsons, one granddaughter and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen, his sister, Helen, and his daughter, Donna.

The family is grateful for the loving care provided by the compassionate staff at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

A celebration, honoring Jack’s life, will be announced at a later date.
