JACK ROGER HOWISON, AGE 89
Jack Roger Howison, a proud veteran and skilled painting and decorating contractor, peacefully passed away on November 7, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 89. He was born on June 19, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to his parents, Robert and Mertle Howison.
Jack’s life was marked by service and dedication. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Seabee, demonstrating his commitment to his country and his fellow citizens. Following his military service, he carved out a successful career as a painting and decorating contractor. His skilled craftsmanship left a lasting mark on the homes and spaces he transformed.
Jack was not only dedicated to his work but also to his community. He was an active member of the Lions Club and a passionate volunteer for the Boy Scouts organization. He selflessly gave his time and energy to support and uplift others.
When not working, Jack found solace and joy in his woodworking endeavors. He possessed a remarkable talent for crafting beautiful furniture and cabinetry, leaving behind a legacy of artistry in wood.
Some of Jack’s greatest joys in life included his love for fishing, bowling, trips to the sand dunes to ride four-wheelers, billiards, cards, and playing Mexican Train. He relished these pastimes, cherishing the moments spent with family and friends during these activities.
Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Pat Howison of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their love and companionship were a source of strength and comfort throughout their journey together, his children; Janet (deceased) and her daughter Denise, Jeff and his sons, Johnathon and Jason, and Jill and husband Cliff and their sons Garrott and Cody, his step-daughters; Shelley and son Nate and Cecilia and husband Jay, his brother and sister Bob and Phyllis, both deceased, and also survived by several nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Monday November 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Sears Cemetery, which is located at 874 E. 500th Ave. Take N. 850th Street, south from Quaker Corner to E. 500th Ave., then follow the signs east to the cemetery. Pastor Kyle Bailey will be officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the combined units of VFW Post #4549, Robinson, IL, E.M. Coulter Post #69, American Legion, Robinson, IL, Reavill Post #132, American Legion, Flat Rock, IL and the AMVETS Post #33, Palestine, IL.
Jack’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of service and craftsmanship will be remembered with honor and respect. May he rest in eternal peace.
