Harvey J. Knapp, age 95 of Mason City Iowa passed away after a long and well lived life. Harvey enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, gardening, canning, and hosting gatherings with friends and family where he would proudly serve his homemade “Recipe” and entertain his guests with his gift of storytelling. The more company the better.
Harvey was born in Swaledale, Iowa in 1928 to Harvey Sr. and Gladys (Patton) Knapp. At age 17 he joined the United States Navy as a Seabee and served during two wars earning him a World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.
After his military career Harvey met the love of his life Mary Ann (Knutson) Knapp at the Black & White Cafe. They were married in 1950 and were blessed with 5 children. Harvey regarded Maryann as his life’s dancing partner and were happily married for 70 years. Harvey worked at Decker and Sons in Mason City, Iowa for 37 years until his retirement. He loved the lord and was an active church member at the Faith Baptist Church where he and Mary Ann made many cherished friendships.
Harvey is fondly remembered by his children Debra McGurk, Ricky (Christy) Knapp, Cheryl Knapp, Randy (Shellie) Knapp and son-in-law Gary Clark. Grandchildren Melody (Craig) Grayson, Lisa (Tim) Jurgens, John McGurk, Donya Amundson, Nicholas Knapp, Jennifer (Ben) Stark, Alex (Kelsey) Knapp, Justin (Emily) Knapp, Travis Knapp, Amber (Ray) Stearns and many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Greeting him in heaven are his wife Mary Ann, parents Harvey Sr & Gladys, sister Lola, and daughter Karen.
Harvey was laid to rest next to his wife Mary Ann, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa on October 16th 2023.
