Mr. Harold Samuel Knowles

Date of birth 01/21/1945
Date of passing 10/16/2022

West Newbury – Harold Samuel Knowles, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed peacefully in his home October 16, 2022.
Harry, as he was known to family and friends, was a kind, steady force, totally devoted to his family.
Harry was born to the late Lucy and Albert Knowles in Newburyport, MA and raised in West Newbury. He graduated from Pentucket High School, Class of 1963. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1965, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a proud member of the Construction Battalion (better known as the Seabees). Following his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1969, Harry enjoyed a forty year career as a woodworker. He built and repaired many houses in West Newbury and the surrounding area and was especially proud of the home he built for his family.
Harry married Maureen Leary in 1982. They were blessed with two amazing sons, Samuel and Harrison, and two wonderful daughters-in-law, Samuel’s wife Molly and Harrison’s wife Mary. The blessings continued with three grandsons, Henry, Porter, and Owen, who brought such tremendous joy to Harry’s life.
Family dinners on Wednesday nights were the highlight of Harry’s week, especially when blueberry pie was on the menu. Harry could often be found sitting at his table, listening to his oldies country music, building his Legos.
Harry is survived by his brothers Bert, Bob and his wife Jill, his sister Judy and her husband Gordon, his brother-in-law Jack and his wife Chris, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished so dearly.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 22 at 11:00 A.M. at the West Newbury Congregational Church, 308 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Harry’s honor to the Wounded Warrior Project.
