SAGINAW – Harold Dean Miller, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 11, 2025. He was born on February 10, 1936, in Venice, California, to William Bentley and Bessie Louise Miller. Harold’s life was defined by his dedication to service, family, and faith.
A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at Greenwood’s Independence Chapel on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.; family and friends are invited to come together to honor a man who lived with purpose, strength, unwavering faith, and integrity.
Harold spent his formative years in Sweetwater, Texas, attending Sweetwater Elementary, Middle, and High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving as a Navy Seabee from 1954 to 1964. Harold’s service took him to remarkable destinations, including the picturesque landscapes of Italy and the strategic shores of Midway Island.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Harold pursued further education at Snyder Community College, earning numerous advanced certifications in law enforcement. His dedication to public service continued as he devoted 30 years to the Sweetwater Police Department, where he achieved the rank of Police Lieutenant before retiring in 2001.
Harold’s commitment to excellence extended beyond his professional life. He took great pride in always maintaining an immaculate yard, a testament to his meticulous nature. He was a sports fan, cheering on the Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys. Additionally, he loved a good western starring John Wayne or Matt Dillon.
The love story began in an unexpected manner when Harold ticketed a then Karen Shuler for speeding on the streets of Sweetwater. Despite their unlikely meeting, their bond grew stronger over the years, and they built a life filled with love, and above all, undying respect for one another. They married on October 19, 1974, and they never looked back.
Harold was a man of deep faith, devoutly reading his Bible daily and living by the teachings of Jesus Christ. His life was a shining example of how one can serve their country, community, and family with unwavering commitment and grace. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.
