Mr. Guyfred A. “Guy” Haynie

Guyfred A. “Guy” Haynie, 96, of Marriottsville, died Saturday, October 7, 2023, at BridgingLife’s Hospice at Northwest Hospital. Born February 18, 1927, in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Sylvia Hobbs Baker and step-son of the late Harry Otis Baker. He was the husband of the late Laura “Jo” Haynie, his wife of 42 years and the late Sheila Grace Haynie his wife of 16 1/2 years. Guy served during WWII in the 7th Special US Navy Seabees until his discharge in June 1946. He then worked for the Chesapeake Cadillac Company in Baltimore until the family relocated back to Marriottsville and at that time was employed at Springfield State Hospital, becoming an L.P.N. In 1951, he left for employment with the C&P Telephone Company where he spent 37 years and retired in 1988 as a Field Engineer designated outside plant. He was a member at the Sykesville American Legion Post #223, first signing up in 1952. He attended Friendship Baptist Church for many years. He is survived by brother Donald Baker of Finksburg and sister-in-law Arlene of Stuart, FL . Also surviving are Ralph’s three daughters and one son and Donald’s son and daughter, step-daughters Diane Dye and husband “Butch” of PerryHall and Carla Pensinger and husband Mike of Finksburg and Dye’s two daughters and Carla’s son. He was predeceased by his brother Ralph Baker and sister-in-law Barbara Baker. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11am on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will follow at 11am. Interment will follow the service at the funeral home at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Carroll County Humane Society, Sykesville American Legion Post #223 or to Friendship Baptist Church, Sykesville, MD.
