Robert Gregory “Greg” Wheat, age 94, passed away December 19, 2025, from a life filled with pain and sickness, to a life with Jesus and complete healing. Greg was born in Tuscaloosa, AL but was fortunately raised in Kingsport, TN. He was the last of seven children born to the late Joel Lester (Pop) and Lois Mallie (Granny) Wheat.
Greg was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a Seabee. This furthered his career as a master carpenter, having worked at many places including Phipps Bend Nuclear Plant.
Having limited education, his carpentry and math skills were extraordinary, as he could fix anything. For the last 22 years he called the Kiwanis Towers his home; and to Maggie, Michelle (Melody lol) and Eddie, you were three of his closest friends. He thought you all hung the moon, and we thank you for all you have done for him. He truly loved you.
Greg was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church and served as an usher and he was a friend to many. Greg asked Jesus into his heart in the early 90’s and his life was changed forever. He tried to live as close to the Lord and live by what the Bible said as anyone possibly could. He also loved watching “his preachers” on television. He often asked people where they went to church and if they knew the Lord as their Savior. Greg was always happy to tell people how they could have the same joy that he had found in the Lord. Now, Greg has seen Jesus just as he is, and his new home is Heaven.
Robert’s sibling who preceded him in death were Joe Wheat, Mildred Johnson, JoAnn Robinette, Paul Wheat, Patsy Covey, and Wanell Wheat.
So, Uncle Greg, I’ll ask everybody just for you one more time…Where do you go to church, and do you know Jesus as your Savior?
There will be a military graveside service held at Mountain Home National Cemetery at 10:00 am on Friday, December 26, 2025, with brother David Dotson officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Boone Dam Post #4933. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery promptly at 9:45 am.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home Kingsport is serving the Wheat family.
