Date of passing 08/11/2021

Glen R. Leach, 72, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021 peacefully at home, with his family by his side. He was born on Aug. 16, 1948 in Whitley County, Ky. to John Leach and Mary Leach Roberts.

Glen was a man of strong faith, who loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and a faithful prayer warrior for his family and friends. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was a 1966 graduate of Bradley Central High School, where he lettered in baseball, football and track. He continued to play baseball for Cleveland State Community College. Glen then went on to proudly serve his country during the Vietnam War as a Navy Seabee, NMCB1 Battalion, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, FMF COI/Expert Rifleman Medal, as well as the Bronze Star for Valor. He retired from Bowater Paper Mill in 2000. He was an avid Ham Radio operator, active in Cleveland’s local Ham Radio Club and participated as a relay operator for the National Weather Service during local severe weather.

Glen was preceded in death by his father, John W. Leach, as well as his grandparents, Jess & Fannie Hill and Millard & Amanda Leach.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 52 years, Karen Kendrick Leach; his children, Coby Leach and Joseph & Leslie Leach Davis; his cherished granddaughter, Cameron Davis; mother, Mary Leach Roberts; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy & David Meadows; sisters and brothers-in-law: Cheryl & Barry Hooper, Denise & Terry Morrow; as well as many nieces and nephews.

We appreciate Dr. Don Robinson, Glen’s VA primary care physician, for his kindness and friendship these last few years – as well as the many other medical personnel at the Chattanooga VA clinic. Lastly, we are so grateful for the Hearth Hospice nurses who lovingly cared for our husband and father. They allowed him to be at home with family and friends, as he prepared to transition from his earthly body to his heavenly home.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at Candies Creek Baptist Church from 4-6 p.m., with a service to follow immediately after. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery the following day.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Candies Creek Baptist Church at candiescreek.com, where he is a member, or the Disabled American Veterans, DAV, organization dav.org.
