Mr. Gaston H. Mazeres

Gaston H. Mazeres Jr., 75, of Gilpin died Saturday (Sept. 11, 2004) in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, East Franklin.
Born July 10, 1929, in New Orleans, he lived in Tennessee, Mississippi and Florida before moving to Gilpin in 1995. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the Naval Seabees for 26 years. He was a fuel deliveryman for Gulf Oil Petroleum, a manager for Church’s Chicken, a cashier for Charter Oil Co., a golf course maintenance worker and a nursing home maintenance worker in Jacksonville, Fla., before retiring in 1995. Mr. Mazeres was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Jacksonville and Gulfport, Miss. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Sara Nunn Mazeres; four sons, William G. Mazeres of Gilpin, John (Mona) Mazeres of Tampa, Fla., Steven Mazeres of Ohio, and Robert Mazeres of Clarksville, Tenn.; two daughters, Erma Swarez and Betty (Daniel) Groff, both of Mississippi; a stepdaughter, Helen (Dwayne) Holliman of Mooresburg, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Reggie (Jean) Mazeres of Cookville, Tenn.; and three sisters, Nettie Boudreaux of Schriever, La., Leverta Hinesbourg of Thibodaux, La., and Wanda Ketter of Texas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Luz Maria Mazeres; a son, Gaston Mazeres III; his parents, Gaston H. and Erma LaBlanc Mazeres Sr.; and a sister, Margaret Mazeres. There will be no visitation. Services will be private. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
