LINCOLN – G. Walter “Walt” Swain, 90 of Lincoln, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Bay Health, Dover, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Lincoln on May 4, 1924 son of the late Harvey Swain and Iris Irland Swain. He was owner of Swains Construction, which he began in 1955 and operated until he semi-retired. He graduated from Milford High School Class of 1942. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the 69th Navy Construction Battalion. He was proud to be a Seabee. He was a prominent business man and owned several business ventures throughout his life. He was a member of the Milford Masonic Lodge, a Milford VFW lifetime member, and the Delaware Standard Bred Association. He loved horses, was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his family and friends. He gave freely of his time and talents to all in need. Especially, loved family bon-fires. He was known to many as “Pop”. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Janet “Judy “Swain; five children, Belinda Swain Stuper and significant other Danny, Robert J. Wilson and wife Robin, Kim Wilson Rogers and husband Eddie, Karen White Pechart and husband Shawn and Kelly White Peregoy; one sister, Joan Swain Shockley; nine grandchildren, Cassie Stuper, Carmen Wilson Edwards, Michael and Brandon Rogers, Caitlin Rogers Creed, Scott and Sean Cohick and Chip and Trea Peregoy; also, eight great grandchildren. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2014 in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2014 in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, Delaware 19963. Interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Delaware Horseman Association.
