Mr. Frederick “Fritz” Gloe

Frederick “Fritz” W. Gloe, age 87, Sioux Falls SD died on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the Sanford Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2024, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. Interment with full military honors will follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls. Memorial visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024, also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Frederick W. Gloe was born April 1, 1936 in Presho, SD. He resided in Larchwood, IA after his birth and went to school at Larchwood, IA High School through 10th grade, and later obtained a GED.

Fritz served in the United States Marine Corps 1953-1956 during the Korean War Era. Fritz serviced in the US Naval Seabees reserves for 10 years and Air National guard reserves for 5 years. Fritz obtained a Seabees of the year award from US Naval Reserve Seabees division 9-26 Sioux Falls in 1965. Fritz also served in the VFW Honor Guard.

Fritz and family moved to the Sioux Falls area where he worked for Northern States Power (NSP). He worked for NSP for 35 years until he retired in 1992. Fritz was involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and eventually served at a commander level at the VFW in 1964-1965.

Fritz enjoyed his farming time and spending time with his family.

Fritz and family moved from Sioux Falls, SD to acreage in Crooks, SD where he worked as a land developer and expanded areas of the southern sections of Crooks. Fritz and wife Bonnie wintered in Mesquite, NV for nearly 20 years after retirement with the latest residency of Sioux Falls, SD.

Fritz is survived by wife Bonnie of 68 years; two brothers, James Gloe of Estelline, SD and Harris (Sheila) Gloe of Boulder CO; and two sisters, Nancy Gloe of Denver, CO and Bonita Kinney Greeley, CO. Fritz is also survived by three sons, Monty (Dana) Gloe of Pierre, Terry Gloe of Sioux Falls, and Jesse Gloe of Rapid City; two daughters, Cindy Gloe of Sioux Falls and Marnita (Eddie) Goddard of Henderson, NV.

Fritz leaves behind grandchildren, William (Sara) Gloe, Sarah Gloe, Susan (Adam) Hanson, Ben (Alyssa) Gloe, Julia (Brett) Marryshow; step grandchildren, Ryan (Jenni) Nuttall, Brittney (Tracy) Binger, Amanda (Thomas) Davis); great grandchildren, Lilah Gloe, Cooper Gloe, Lucas Hanson, Levi Hanson, Bryce Lanzilotti, Remedy Marryshow, Reylin Marryshow; great step grandchildren, Lydia Nuttall, Lainey Nuttall, Grayden Binger, Brienna Binger, Salera Binger, Hudson Binger, Dalaina Davis, Daxton Davis, Deklynn Davis, and Donovan Davis.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ernst and Anna Gloe; four brothers, Robert Gloe, Karl Gloe, Larry Gloe, and Tom Gloe; and three sisters, Sylvia Ferguson Warner, Kathy (Larry) Ashlock, and infant sister, Isabel Dorothea.
