TERRYVILLE – Francis William Maroney, 89, passed away on July 4, 2021 in Bristol. He was the husband of Diane Smail Maroney. Francis was born on April 29, 1932, on May Avenue in Naugatuck. He was the son of the late John Maroney and Mary Suba Maroney.
Francis attended St. Francis Catholic School and Naugatuck High School. He was a truck driver for Carolina Freight in Milford for 30 years before retiring in 1995. Francis served as the captain of the Naugatuck Fire Department for 30 years, and was a United States Navy Seabees serving on the minesweeper Gayety.
He was a member of Teamsters Local 443 for over 30 years, as well as the Elks Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Francis enjoyed fishing on Damariscotta Lake in Maine while drinking black label beers, traveling the state to watch his granddaughters play softball, learning about history and watching the ocean at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. Francis had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh.
In addition to his wife Diane, of Terryville, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Lenny Dorosh of Litchfield; his granddaughters, Emily and Megan of Litchfield; his brother, William “Brother Bill” Maroney of Palm Bay, Fla.; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Tami Maroney of Center Sandwich, N.H.; his brother, John “Bud” Maroney of Naugatuck; his sister, Elizabeth Miller of Woodbury; and his sister, Margaret Koonz of Bomoseen, Vt.
