Ellery E. Engell, age 97, of Millcreek Twp., passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022. He was born in Erie on March 10, 1925, the son of the late Julius T. and Grace A. Lines Engell.
He joined the US Navy in 1943 just out of high school and served in the Seabees in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
He was employed at Sessinghaus & Ostergaard as a construction superintendent both locally and out of state.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Arthur, Lester, and Wilmer Engell and two sisters; Mildred Engell Hemme and La Vera Engell.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Charlotte M. Smith Engell, one son William Engell (Cherri), two daughters; Becky Losinger (Robert), Patricia Hayes (Jeff), four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Ellery was a very quiet, kind, and humble man who truly loved his God, family, and his work.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday, September 9, 2022 from 12:00 Noon until the time of the Funeral Service there at 1:00 P.M. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erie City Mission, 1017 French Street, Erie, PA 16501 or to the Second Harvest Food Bank, 1507 Grimm Drive, Erie, PA 16501.
