Gulfport, Mississippi – Edward Thomas Ayotte, Jr., age 72, passed away peacefully on April 13th, 2023 at his home in Gulfport, MS.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Bryant (Wade) and granddaughters Scarlett & Stella; his sister, Carole Lesieur & his brother, Richard Ayotte.
Ed was born on December 29th, 1950, in Waterbury, Connecticut to Doris & Edward Ayotte, Sr. Ed graduated from Wolcott High School in 1968. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy Seabees, serving in NMCB 10, 414 & 133 from 1969 – 1976. In 1976, he met the love of his life, Sherry, on Valentine’s Day and married her that same year. They were married for 42 years.
After Ed left the Navy, he began a home remodeling business, remodeling several homes along the MS Gulf Coast. In 1980, Ed went to work for MS Power Company and retired in 2011 after ending a successful career.
Ed was a great man, often referred to as “Mr. Wonderful” by his wife, Sherry. He was an avid builder, reader, and book collector. In the late 1980’s Ed served as President and one of the founding members of Habitat for Humanity MS Gulf Coast building homes in both Pass Christian & North Gulfport. Ed was a funny, intelligent man with a big heart who loved helping others & spending time with his family.
Ed is preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Ayotte and his parents Doris Ayotte & Edward Ayotte, Sr.
The family would like to thank the attentive, caring staff of Gentiva Hospice for all of their help & support over the last 2 years. Family, friends and anyone who would like to attend are welcome to attend a graveside service held at the Biloxi National Cemetery on Monday, May 1st at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Habitat For Humanity MS Gulf Coast 2214 34th St. Gulfport, MS 39501 or by visiting www.hfhmgc.org.
