Mr. Duncan Charmichael

Date of birth 05/01/2024
Date of passing 02/16/2023

Duncan Carmichael, a lifelong resident of Billerica passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023. He was husband to the late Jeanne P. Carmichael (Mailhoit) and father of daughter, Denise, daughter, Dawn and her husband, Chris. He was the very proud grandfather of Krystal, Nicole, Maggie and Colby and great grandfather of Owen, Logan and Bradley. He was predeceased by siblings, Robert, Donald, Marcia, Paula and Nancy and survived by siblings, Malcolm, Edward, John, David, Richard, Alan, Susan, Bruce, Paul and Sharon and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Duncan was proud to be a Veteran serving in the Vietnam War for four years as a Navy SeaBee in the Construction Battalion. He was an avid bowler for many years, loved to walk outdoors, was confident enough in his ability to do crosswords in pen, played cribbage and horseshoes and he liked watching NCIS, This Old House, Antiques Roadshow and loved to call out answers on Jeopardy. For many years he enjoyed time away going “up country” with the guys. He said once that he didn’t have a religion but that he was just nice to people. Duncan worked construction after his time in the service and, for a time, owned his own business, Carmichael Craftsman. He loved to drink black coffee, hated technology of any kind and he would say things like, “I haven’t the foggiest idea.” All of these things were true of Duncan but if you asked him what he was most proud of, he would tell you his kids and most especially his grandkids and great grandkids.

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at the Billerica Elks Lodge, 14 Webb Brook Road, Billerica, MA 01821. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Veteran related organization or to benefit cancer research.
