Mr. Donald W. Westphal

Date of birth 02/14/1935
Date of passing 01/24/2025

On January 24, 2025, we said goodbye to our beloved Donald W. Westphal, who passed away at home at the age of 89. Don was born on February 14, 1935, in Manitowoc, WI to Frank and Mary (nee Siehr) Westphal.

Don proudly served his country first in the National Guard and then as a Seabee in the Navy from 1953-1957, where he traveled extensively, including to French Morocco, Africa, Newfoundland, Greenland, and Iceland. While serving, he built Quonset huts and honed skills that would benefit him in his later career.

In 1957, Don married his beloved wife, Grace Bellantone, at St. Michael’s Church in Rhode Island, embarking on a journey together that would span nearly seven decades.

Don joined Burger Boat in Manitowoc, WI cultivating his passion for craftsmanship as a carpenter. In time, he became a skilled builder and developer, known for creating beautiful, family-oriented homes, and developed apartments and condominiums that reflected his dedication to quality and detail.

An avid enthusiast of various pastimes, Don found joy in playing cards — particularly sheepshead, chess, and cribbage. He was also an avid hunter, golfer, and a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. In addition to his leisure activities, Don tapped into his creative side by tooling leather purses and lamps and crafting beautiful furniture. Every winter, he looked forward to traveling down to Florida, where he paired relaxation with his love of golf. He was a certified scuba diver, adventurous in spirit, exploring the stunning underwater landscapes of Key Largo and local lakes. Each dive was a testament to his adventurous heart and love for nature.

A true family man, Don was devoted to his family. He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Grace; sons Paul and Frank; grandson Adam; sister Janet Fetzer; along with nieces, nephews, family, friends, and neighbors.

Don is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Kenneth (Maggie) and Robert (Gladyce) Westphal. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the EMS and police for their compassionate care during this difficult time.

A visitation will be held on February 14, 2025, at Pagenkopf Funeral Home, 2228 N. Silver Maple Lane, Oconomowoc, WI 53066 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Following the visitation, a celebration of Donald’s life will occur at 2:30 p.m., where military honors will be accorded to honor his service.
