Donald Pearce Eddy Jr., 77, of Charlottesville, Virginia, died on January 12, 2022, at the UVA Medical Center.
Born on December 6, 1944, in Newton, Massachusetts, he was the son of Donald Pearce Eddy and Miriam Brightman Eddy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara Eddy Emerson and her husband, Larry A. Emerson; his mother-in-law, Grace M. Chabot; his brother-in-law, Mark E. Chabot; and nephew, Michael E. Surprenant.
After graduating from high school in Wellesley, Mass., in 1962, Don joined the Navy Seabees. Upon discharge in 1966 he joined an apprenticeship program to become a journeyman carpenter. He continued to work as a carpenter until his retirement, which included 30 years at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was an avid and knowledgeable stamp collector for 70 years. For many years he and his wife enjoyed square dancing. In his later years he faced many challenges, including becoming wheelchair dependent, as the result of being diagnosed with inclusion body myositis.
Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna Devereaux Eddy; his daughter, Sharon Eddy Mann of Midlothian, Va.; his son, Jameson Michael Eddy and his wife, Michelle, of Midlothian, Va.; four granddaughters, MaryGrace Mann of Chester, Va., Carson Eddy of Chester, Va., Cameron Mann of Midlothian, Va., and Caitlin Eddy of Midlothian, Va.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Surprenant of Chicopee, Mass., and Patricia Hogan of Palmer, Mass.; nieces, Elizabeth Emerson Bentley and Patricia Emerson Davis of Rockland, Maine; and nephews, Raymond Surprenant of Monson, Mass., Richard Surprenant of Bunnell, Fla., Edward Surprenant of North Port, Fla., and James Chabot of Palmer, Mass. He is also survived by a special cousin, Sandra Collingridge of Pembroke, Mass.

A memorial service for Don will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home Charlottesville Chapel with a visitation one hour prior.
