HERNDON-Dennis Woodrow Zartman went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 6, 2024. Born on February 8, 1945 to the late Clarence Woodrow and Queen Mary (Donmoyer) Zartman, Dennis spent his entire life minus a short time living in Urban, PA on his parents’ land.
Dennis graduated from Mahanoy Joint High School, class of 1962, and earned a certificate in Heavy Equipment Operation and Service at the Williamsport Technical Institute in 1964. On April 17, 1965, he married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Troutman, who survives. He was extremely proud to have voluntarily enlisted to serve his country during the Vietnam War in the Navy Seabees from 1966-1968. He was dedicated to operating all types of heavy equipment in the construction of our interstate system and mining coal in the Shamokin area.
Dennis was a dedicated member of Grace Community Church, serving mainly in the music ministry but also in the Sunday school program and Elder Board. He recommitted his life to Christ at the age of 20 and faithfully worshipped there. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 504.
Dennis dearly loved his family, and enjoyed many times together, especially loving grandkids visits and sleepovers. He loved to fish, hunt, garden, and basically anything outdoors. For 30 years he made an annual trip to Black Lake, NY, fishing, eating and enjoying a good time with family and friends. He was a member of the Big Spring Hunting Camp, Potter County, and rarely missed a chance to hunt bear with the other members and looked forward to summertime trips to the camp with his friends and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeffrey and wife Amy, Timothy and wife Melissa, and four grandchildren, Trent, Queenlyn, Ashton, and Brookelyn, all of Dornsife.
A viewing will be held on Monday, February 12 from 9:30-11:00 am at Grace Community Church, Herndon, PA, with a Memorial service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Dennis’ memory can be made to Grace Community Church, 1218 State Route 225, Herndon, PA 17830.
