Mr. Dean Theodore Jacobson

Date of passing 10/22/2023

Dean passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, surrounded by his children, grandchildren and friends. He is survived by two children, Heidi and Daniel, and 4 grandchildren, Rachel, Tyler, Quinn and Hayes. Dean grew up outside of Excelsior near Lake Minnewashta. He graduated from Minnetonka High School in 1958 and joined the Navy, where he functioned as a SeaBee. After leaving the Navy Dean went to the University of Minnesota to study business, where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. With his degree in hand, and after working some odd jobs, he and his wife Holly opened the Crafty Place art store in southwest Minneapolis, which in time became a fine art gallery called The Down Town Gallery where local and new to the area artists could display their work. The gallery was located in Crystal Court and later, Butler Square. Eventually he settled into Tax Preparation, first for a local bank and later with Tax Men, until starting his own tax practice. Dean continued his tax preparation business, expanding the company with the help of his son for 15 years until he downsized his involvement and went back to working solo, until 2020, retiring at the age of 80. His passion was his work, long conversations with his friends over dinner, and the volunteer group Friends of Triangle Park. He will be sorely missed by many. A memorial for Dean will be held in the Fireside Room at his condo on Saturday, November 4th from noon to 4 p.m., 500 East Grant Street, Minneapolis, MN 55413. Street parking only. Donations in Dean’s name can be made to: Friends of Triangle Park (minneapolistrianglepark.org) or NC Little Memorial Hospice (littlehospice.org)
